Cooperative Management Starts with Your Vote

This year is the 25th anniversary of Yankee Farm Credit and we are going digital with our first ever Virtual Annual Meeting! A virtual experience eliminates the possibility for a physical board member vote, so in replacement, we have developed a mail-in ballot.

Your voice matters, but you may be asking yourself: why and for what are we voting?

Voting is part of the cooperative structure. Cooperatives are businesses that are democratically operated by its owners. Coops have seven principles that guide its mission and structure.

These seven principles are:

  1. Voluntary open ownership
  2. Democratic owner control
  3. Owner economic participation
  4. Autonomy and independence
  5. Education, training, and information
  6. Cooperation among cooperatives
  7. Concern for the community
While all of these are vital components, today we are turning our attention to the second pillar of cooperatives, Democratic Owner Control. One of the most vital aspects of the coop relationship is that the organization is customer owned. Therefore, the direction of the organization is decided directly by those who would be affected by decisions.

As a part of Yankee Farm Credit’s borrower client√®le, you are an owner and have the right to vote for who represents you! The board of directors are voted on by the members of the cooperative, who in turn vote for our CEO, set patronage, and make executive decisions on the company’s path in an effort to maintain its vision.

Cooperative management starts with your vote, its important you use your voice to elect someone who represents you and your viewpoints. The board is a representation of all of the industries to which we lend and we are constantly striving towards solutions that will include the best interest of all our owners.

We feel fortunate to have a smart and engaged board,” states Yankee CEO Brenda Frank, “Your vote helps to maintain the quality governance that we have come to appreciate.  Our board of directors are the key to keeping your team at YFC focused on member’s needs.  We are privileged to work for you and appreciate your attention to the governance of your cooperative”.

We cannot fulfill your needs unless you make them known! Now is your chance to speak up and be a part of the conversation that will set the tone for the future of Yankee Farm Credit. Yankee is here to be a trusted resource for all of your needs.
